Updated Resident Policy Packets Are Here: What Residents and Families Need to Know
Over the past few months, the leadership team at McKinley Care Assisted Living has adapted and revised the resident information and policy packets to better inform and advise those living within our community. Covering a variety of topics related to life at McKinley Care and keeping the medical team current with resident health and wellness, the new packets are available and should be received by all residents and their caregivers, be they family, friends, or care coordinators. We care about you, and one of the best ways to do so is through information and mutual understanding.
In the resident policy packets, you will find information about:
Medication.
McKinley Care will manage medications, including insulin and other injectable or non-pill medications, in a manner that protects resident safety, resident rights, and medication security. Medication assistance will be provided only according to the resident's current assisted living plan, current provider orders, applicable nursing requirements, and staff authorization or delegation when required. There are certain tasks assisted living providers in Alaska cannot do: draw insulin, select an insulin dose, or administer other injectable medication; force anyone to take a medication; or retain any medication after a change in a resident’s medication status.
Visitors.
It is so important that each resident and their visitor(s) understand and comply with guidelines related to visiting McKinley Care Assisted Living. Our community is also bound by state regulations to offer a safe and enjoyable environment for all residents and staff, and we take this responsibility very seriously. All visitors will be asked to sign in and out of the building, and may be asked to provide identification upon request. Additionally, the staff reserves the right to limit the number of visitors per resident in compliance with state guidelines for square footage, egress, and roommate privacy. Finally, every visitor will be held to a standard of dress, grooming, and appropriate footwear at all times in the McKinley Care facility and on the property.
House Rules.
In relation to the above visitor policy, McKinley Care has adapted the House Rules (signed by all residents) to include limits on overnight guests and visitor numbers. These rules protect resident rights, health, safety, privacy, and quiet enjoyment. They do not waive any right under AS 47.33, the Alaska Landlord and Tenant Act, when applicable, or federal HCBS requirements.
Residential Services Contract.
This contract is between McKinley Care LLC (the Home) and the resident identified below. It supplements any separate lease or room-and-board agreement. If a term conflicts with a nonwaivable resident right or applicable law, the law controls. A revised contract has been established to clarify points of understanding, make room and board charges clearer, and update resident contacts and family or representative contact information. Care services are added depending on the resident’s plan of care, which is revised every 90 days.
